Kors Cares: Celebrating Michael Kors Month at God’s Love
8.6.24
/ Community
Throughout the month of July, the staff of Michael Kors has generously dedicated their time and enthusiasm to God’s Love We Deliver, volunteering in our kitchen and delivering meals during their workday. We welcomed 144 employees from the New York and New Jersey corporate offices. Their support means the world to us!
Designer Michael Kors, a native New Yorker with a career spanning more than 30 years, has passionately involved himself in numerous philanthropic endeavors, including God’s Love. In 2012, he elevated his commitment by dedicating the time of his staff to volunteer with us every July. In recognition of his unwavering support, we named July “Michael Kors Month.”

We are profoundly grateful to Michael for his unmatched generosity. His support has been pivotal during our rapid growth as a medically tailored meal organization. Michael is indeed a special friend to us. Having the Kors volunteers in our kitchen throughout July, inspired by Michael’s example of service, has been truly heartening.
Thank you to Michael and the entire Michael Kors team for their incredible spirit of volunteerism and commitment to supporting their vulnerable New York neighbors. They are shining examples to all of us.

Plan with MyPlate!
8.28.24
/ Nutrition
This August and throughout the year, we encourage you to follow the MyPlate guidelines for planning nutritious meals and snacks. Using MyPlate is an easy way to plan meals, all you need is a plate.
Start with Produce
Fill half of your plate with fruit and vegetables. Choose from a variety of colors--red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white and brown. Get creative, arrange, and combine however you prefer.
Include Lean Protein
Choose from lean meat, poultry, or fish. This also includes beans, nuts, or tofu.
Make Half your Grains Whole Grain
Swap refined grains like white rice, bread, and cereal with whole grains instead. Look for the words “100% whole grain” or “100% whole wheat” in the ingredients.
Dairy and Other Options
The dairy group includes milk, yogurt, cheese, lactose-free milk, and fortified soy milk and yogurt. Limit your food little calcium and a high fat content, such as cream cheese, sour cream, cream, and butter.
The Benefits of Our Meals:
At God’s Love We Deliver, we offer a variety of nutritious meals that are low in fat and sodium, and are made without artificial flavorings, preservatives, or fillers. Each week, clients receive a variety of items that fit their dietary and health needs.
Focus on whole fruits:
• Add fresh berries or slices of banana, apples, melons, peaches, or plums to whole grain cereals and pancakes.
• Snack on fruits throughout the day.
• Choose ripe fruits for the best flavor and texture.
• Remove any seeds or pits and discard before adding to your dishes.
Vary your veggies:
• Cook a variety of colorful vegetables and plan ahead by making large batches to use for later.
• Add to pasta, soups, stews, casseroles, or lasagna.
Vary your protein routine:
• Try adding a new protein to your favorite dishes.
• Swap lean meat with beans, chicken, beef or tofu.
Make half your grains whole grains:
• Select from a variety of whole grains like brown rice, farro, quinoa and bulgar instead of white rice.
• Add cooked grains to stir-fry dishes, salads, or wraps.
Drink and eat less added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium:
• Cook at home as much as possible to reduce added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium.
• If feeling full, save half of your meal for later or the next day.
• Share large portions with family or friends.
• Read ingredient labels to choose more nutritious beverages, meals, and snacks.
Please consult your Medical provider or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist if you have any dietary or fluid restrictions. Get creative with MyPlate and enjoy!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Bloomberg for Decades of Support
At God’s Love We Deliver, our mission is to provide nutritious, medically tailored meals to those in need, and we are only able to achieve this because of the steadfast support of partners like Bloomberg. On August 6th, we had the privilege of participating in Bloomberg’s BOBlympics, a vibrant celebration of philanthropy, camaraderie, and community impact. This event was more than just a trivia competition; it was a powerful demonstration of Bloomberg’s commitment to making a difference.
As we joined 100 enthusiastic Bloomberg employees and fellow nonprofits in the spirit of friendly competition, we were reminded once again of the extraordinary generosity that has been a hallmark of Bloomberg’s support over the years. We are particularly grateful to our celebrity ambassadors, Erich Bergen and Melba Wilson, who brought their energy and passion to the event, making the experience even more memorable for everyone involved.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our trustee, Jonathan Raiola, and Nancy Cutler, Americas Head of Corporate Philanthropy at Bloomberg LP, for their extraordinary support in making this event a success. Their dedication to our cause has been invaluable, and we are deeply appreciative of their leadership and commitment. Additionally, our heartfelt thanks go to trustee Cindy Secunda for her unwavering support and for always championing our mission and for joining us on this incredibly fun day.
The BOBlympics highlighted the fun side of philanthropy, but beneath the laughter and excitement was a deep sense of purpose. Bloomberg’s ongoing support has enabled us to continue our life-saving work, delivering meals and hope to thousands of individuals each year. Their belief in our mission has been a beacon of hope for our clients, especially during the most challenging times.
We were proud to be joined by fellow nonprofits KultureCity, represented by original Hamilton cast member Christopher Jackson and actor Kelly AuCoin, and the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, represented by former Yankees and Mets pitcher Dwight “Dr. K” Gooden.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Bloomberg for their unwavering commitment to our cause. Your decades-long partnership has not only sustained our work but has also inspired us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in service to our community. We look forward to many more years of collaboration and to continuing to make a difference together.
Thank you, Bloomberg, for standing with us, for believing in our mission, and for being champions of change.
