Before performing to a sold-out D.C. crowd for their Lover’s Game tour, Michael and Tanya Trotter, the dynamic duo behind Grammy-nominated The War and Treaty, had a special presentation for a beloved audience.
In a private room above the stage of The Hamilton Live, Michael and Tanya reunited with House of Ruth’s President & CEO Sandra Jackson and fellow staff. Following warm embraces, The War and Treaty presented House of Ruth with a $25,000 check—the winnings from their recent victory on Celebrity Family Feud.
As everyone in the room cheered, Michael Trotter shared his testimony—his personal journey with his mother and siblings at House of Ruth. It was a full-circle moment, a testament to the hope, potential, and possibilities that House of Ruth fosters in each woman and child we serve.
“I pray that there are more success stories like mine. I think of House of Ruth every day—for many reasons. One of those reasons is the story of redemption. My father is the true miracle of our story. Had the House of Ruth not jumped in, and my mom and siblings stayed there, it wouldn’t have given my father the chance to see the changes he needed to make… to build his own life back up.”
The atmosphere in the room was electric, filled with love and deep gratitude.
President and CEO Sandra Jackson encapsulated those shared sentiments.
“Michael represents the hope that House of Ruth has offered women and children in D.C. since 1976. In addition to hope, House of Ruth provides the supportive services to foster the potential in each woman and child we serve and identifies opportunities for them to thrive. This donation will go a long way in helping us continue that work. Although we receive funding from the government and other sources, it is never enough. That’s why we need the public, everyone—to partner with us to ensure that our families have everything they need.”
Thank you, Michael, Tanya, and The War and Treaty team, for being not only our champions but also champions for all those we serve.
