“Alaska is a state divided – a pro-life Governor, with pro-abortion representation in Washington, along with some of the worst laws in the nation when it comes to protecting preborn life,” said SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs. “Last night’s pro-life victories are the start of our Pro-Life Generation effort to change those laws, with three candidates bringing us one step closer to restoring legal protections for human beings who are daily at risk to death by intentional abortion.”

JUNEAU, AK (08-20-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the election of three pro-life candidates and incumbents after Alaska’s senate and house primary races. SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs said, “Abortion through all nine month is what Vice President Kamala Harris promises to deliver to the American people if she wins the Presidency in November – but this unbelievable violence is already the law of the land in Alaska. That’s what last night’s victory will hopefully end: abortion, up until birth. But that can only happen with pro-life champions in Juneau, fighting for preborn life in law and in service.”

In this cycle, SFLAction sent 10,563 texts to five targeted districts to educate voters about the records of candidates. Wins in targeted districts include:

  • Senate District N: Stephen Wright
  • House District 27: David Eastman
  • House District 35: Ruben McNeill

According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, Alaska is one of eight states and Washington D.C. that allows abortion up to birth for any reasons and sometimes with taxpayer funding. In fact, Alaska’s federal office holders scored the worst among the GOP states, earning an “F” on the Pro-Life Generation Report Card.

However, Gov. Mike Dunleavy said in January 2024 that he wishes Alaska to become the most pro-life state in the country.

SFLAction has been active in Alaska in the past, with prior advocacy including standing up for U.S. Senator Tuberville by protesting regional offices of U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan.

SFLAction recently kicked off its abortion ballot initiative campaign, with a revamped website featuring additional state specific information and resources for grassroots supporters and activists who want to get involved, including state specific information, resources, and messaging kits for the “Vote No” campaign.
