PETITION TARGET: Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt
A dog is still missing in Portland, Oregon weeks after the Portland Police Bureau released a video of a man viciously kicking and beating the helpless dog.
The black dog was abused repeatedly in an elevator, which was captured by the apartment buildingâs surveillance cameras according to a Portland Police press release. The horrifying video has since been made private, but stills from the video show a man brutally whipping the dog with a rope. Someone else gets in the elevator at one point and the man stops to pick up the dog. The police press release reported that the cameras also captured the man kicking the dog after hanging them from a fire extinguisher.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the situation is the dogâs submissive behavior, which suggests that the dog is either too severely injured to react or has been conditioned to accept this treatment. Either scenario is frightening.
Police have arrested a man who has since been âindicted on four counts of first-degree aggravated animal abuse and four counts of second-degree animal abuse,â according to local news. However, the dog has not been found.
Dogs are loving creatures who feel loneliness, sadness and fear. No animal deserves to live in terror of the person whoâs supposed to love and care for them.
Please sign our petition urging Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt to thoroughly investigate and prosecute the person responsible for abusing this dog, including a lifelong ban on contact with animals.
Police are asking anyone with information about the dog to reach out to Detective Matthew Brown at [email protected] and provide case number 24-803427.
