This year, Native representation is critical at every turn, whether for the Native vote, TV and film, or pro sports. And it’s no different for North Texas Giving Day! Coming up on September 19th, North Texas Giving Day is the largest community-wide giving event in the country. Last year alone, nearly $64 million was raised, benefiting more than 3,200 local nonprofits.

But how much of that bounty is focused on Native causes? I ask because, across the U.S. as a whole, less than 1% of the billions in charitable giving supports Native causes. This can and should be more. Tribal communities are the most underserved areas, yet their citizens receive the lowest per capita federal support in every aspect of life.

The Barriers Native Students Face

That’s why self-sufficiency is non-negotiable, and education is the key – a cornerstone for economic mobility! So, this North Texas Giving Day, we’re asking you to remember Native American students who are working to change their lives and the lives of the community.

Numerous barriers stand between Native students and success – some of which we can remove by working together. Native students are fighting against an education system that misses the mark on Native inclusion. They are fighting the aftermath of treaties the U.S. government broke or is underfunding, leaving the door to opportunity closed. Plus, they are fighting against stereotypes and racism. As a result, only 16% of Native Americans hold a college degree in contrast to 40% of White.

Every Gift Counts

You can help us lighten the load and show Native students you care. Every gift made to our North Texas Giving Day campaign today will benefit a Native college student in North Texas! For those of you who gave last year, we thank you and ask for your continued generosity. If you’re new to Partnership With Native Americans (PWNA),  we say welcome and we need your support. Every gift counts. Please donate today.
