Hot Weather Safety Tips for Pets

August is the warmest month in San Diego. Hot and dry days can be uncomfortable for your pet. Here are a few ways to help keep them cool:

    1. Find a Cool Place: Make sure your pet has access to a cooler spot in the house. Wood or tile floors trap less heat than carpet, making it a more comfortable area for your pet to lay on.
    2. Ice Cubes: Freeze clean water and give them to your pet as an easy, effective way to cool them down and keep them hydrated. For an extra treat, try freezing low sodium chicken broth.
    3. Wet Towel: Dunk a towel in cold water and lay it out on the floor. It helps provide a cool surface for them to rest on.
    4. Brushing: Fur traps heat. Regularly brushing your pet can remove excess fur and help your dog stay cool.
    5. Water: Pets should have access to fresh, clean water at all times.

Is your dog having a reaction to the heat, come have them checked out at Companion Animal Hospital.
