GUEST POST by Chris Bearer, Founder and Executive Director of The C Major Project:
The C Major Project brings music to the ears of the preborn in more ways than one. Â
Launched in the summer of 2023 by Chris and Mary Bearer, the C Major Project marries musical artistry and philanthropy to support music ensembles and other charitable organizations to create and perform newly composed music that goes towards pro-life nonprofits and other nonprofit organizations, including recently for Students for Life of America (SFLA).Â
Their composed music creates beautiful Christian melodies to the ears of the born and preborn while also raising donations to help pro-life organizations help moms and dads choose life. Now, that’s a musical melody. Â
It came about after The C Major Project premiered a large-scale choral-orchestral work called Requiem for the Unborn. Â
Since then, they’ve partnered with other musicians and organizations who want to premiere new music to support their mission. By hosting crowdfunding campaigns to raise money supporting their mission and the partnering organizations’ mission, their composer-in-residence writes a new piece of music tailored to the commissioning organization. The piece can be in memory or honor of someone special to the organization. Or it can be written to commemorate a special event or anniversary.  Â
Some of their past partners are St. Thomas More Catholic School in Houston, Texas, Frassati Catholic High School in Spring, Texas, ProLove Ministries in Jefferson City, Missouri, The Legion of Mary in Houston, Texas, an organ student at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and even a newly married couple in Austin, Texas, who wanted a new song for their wedding. These projects have ranged from short two to three-minute works to extended multi-movement works for choir and orchestra.Â
Their most recent partnership was with SFLA. They commissioned a new piece which was sung for the Mass on June 23, 2024, during the Celebrate Life Conference and rally in Washington, D. C. Written for a solo vocalist with organ accompaniment, the lyrics come from Jerimiah 1:5, which reminds people that even before our lives begin on this earth, in the womb, every one of us was already known to God – He gave us life at conception: Â
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.” Â
The music was composed with a lullaby-like melody to represent this innocence of new life. Thanks to the help of our supporters, not only were they able to compose and perform this new music for the Mass, but we were also able to donate to SFLA.Â
