Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine visits UCU
Story
On 30 July, Ambassador of Indonesia to Ukraine Arief Muhammad Basalamah visited Ukrainian Catholic University. He was accompanied by a professor of Indonesia’s Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR), Sukuwarsini Djelantik. This was the ambassador’s first visit to UCU and the professor’s first visit to Ukraine.
The delegation discussed points of cooperation with the vice-rector and administrative team: joint research regarding Christian-Islamic dialogue and the organizing of conferences and educational courses.
“Part of UCU’s strategy is spreading narratives throughout the world about Ukraine and today’s war, especially in those areas where Ukraine was and still is not adequately presented. Indonesia is a powerful regional player in the area of South East Asia. Cooperation with Indonesian academia, in particular with Catholic universities, is one of our priorities. We also will continue to improve our contacts.” So said Dmytro Sherengovsky, UCU’s Vice-Rector for Outreach and Social Engagement.

Also, next semester five professors of Ukrainian Catholic University and five professors of Airlangga University will work together on a course in the format of COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning).
“Through the COIL program of professional development, we will strive to organize joint international online courses and deepen the academic integration of various institutions of higher education, which will have great potential for intercultural understanding. We want to promote the Ukrainian agenda in this way.” So said Halyna Protsyk, UCU’s Deputy Vice-Rector for Outreach and Social Engagement.
Parahyangan Catholic University is now the second Indonesian university with which UCU is developing relations. The first is Airlangga. On 27-28 March, UCU hosted an international, interreligious conference “Resilience and the role of religion in times of global conflict.” At the center of the discussions was the resilience of religious communities in the context of the challenges of the Russia-Ukraine War and other global conflict. The event was organized by UCU’s Institute of Religion and Society in cooperation with Airlangga University (Indonesia).
We thank the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ukraine for cooperation!
