Hunger Action Month 2024: Join the Fight Against Food Insecurity in NYC
Story
September is Hunger Action Month—a crucial time to take action against the ongoing hunger crisis in New York City. Originally founded by Feeding America in 2008, Hunger Action Month serves as a national call to combat food insecurity, which continues to impact millions of families nationwide. With inflation driving food prices higher than ever, Food Bank For New York City, in partnership with the Grubhub Community Fund, is urging all New Yorkers to get involved in the fight against hunger now.
Did you know that even with two workers in the household, 1 in 3 NYC families still struggle to make ends meet? And that 50% of NYC households can’t afford the rising costs of food and rent? This crisis is only growing, which is why we need your support this Hunger Action Month.
Jonathan recently visited one of our Food Bank mobile pantries in the Bronx. After grabbing bags of produce from our volunteers, he spoke to us about what it takes to feed a family in NYC today. Like many others, Jonathan is fighting high food costs and limited resources to nourish the people he loves the most. And while organizations like Food Bank For New York City are stepping in to help fill the gaps, we can’t do it alone.

A special thank you to our longtime friends at the Grubhub Community Fund for powering our 2024 Hunger Action Month and year-round efforts to close the hunger gap by supporting independent restaurants and creating more opportunities for people in the hospitality industry.
