Consuelo Schaper's Shift from Volunteer to Food Bank Client

Story

I was so moved by the courage of Consuelo Schaper when she shared her powerful journey—from volunteer to food bank client. “There are so many people like myself, struggling to find a job and feed their families. Many who don’t qualify for government assistance like myself,” she said. Once a college student eager to give back, Consuelo never imagined she would one day need the same help she once provided. After losing her job while three months pregnant, she and her husband struggled to afford food. Thanks to Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino, she found the support she needed without barriers or judgment. Her story is a reminder: anyone can face hardship, and no one should have to go hungry. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community.
